Reaper 2 Basics: Your Journey as a Soul Reaper
In Reaper 2, you’ll play as a Soul Reaper, tasked with defending the living world from evil spirits and powerful hollows. As a Soul Reaper, you’ll unlock abilities, enhance your strength, and embark on a series of epic quests. But your journey isn’t just about fighting – it’s about understanding the lore of the Bleach universe and growing into a true warrior.
Soul Reapers: Defenders of Souls
Soul Reapers are guardians of the Soul Society, a place where the souls of the deceased find peace. As a member of this noble group, you’re trained in the art of combat and spiritual power.
Soul Reapers wield Zanpakuto, mystical swords that can evolve into two powerful forms: Shikai (the sword’s first awakening) and Bankai (the ultimate transformation). As you progress in the game, you’ll learn to connect with your Zanpakuto, unlocking these powerful abilities.
For those who weren’t born into the Soul Reaper ranks or have broken the laws of the Soul Society, there’s an alternative path: Substitute Soul Reapers. These individuals gain access to Soul Reaper powers, though they’re not officially recognized as members of the elite order.
Hollows: The Lost Souls
Hollows are the tragic remnants of souls that couldn’t find peace after death. Consumed by regret and sorrow, they transform into monstrous, mask-wearing beings with a hole in their chest.
This hole represents their lost heart, a symbol of their tragic fate. The transformation into a Hollow can also occur when the Chain of Fate, a spiritual chain that binds a soul to life, decays and breaks. The only way for a Hollow to return to normal is by being saved by a Soul Reaper.
Arrancars: The Menacing Evolution
Arrancars are a special type of Hollow who have evolved into humanoid beings after removing their masks. While they still retain some of their Hollow nature, they are much stronger and more dangerous.
These beings come in various stages, such as Menos, Adjuchas, and Vasto Lorde. The most powerful of these are the Vastocars, while the weaker ones are called Menoscars.
Just like Soul Reapers, Arrancars wield Zanpakuto, but their swords don’t undergo the traditional Shikai and Bankai transformations. Instead, they use a technique called Resurrection to unlock their full potential. This allows them to regain strength and evolve further, though once they’ve transformed, they cannot return to their previous form.
